The Easton Pub Wedding, London

Colourful, laid back and gloriously autumnal wedding for Katie and Ben

The Easton Pub Wedding // Flashback to a whole year ago. Katie and Ben got married on a beautiful, autumn day in London. I had got to know these two quite well before the big day after having not one but two dinner dates with them prior so was especially excited for them. As well as being totally pumped to be their London Wedding Photographer. Their day was relaxed, fun and stylish with plenty of decent grub, a theme with these two! Their The Easton Pub Wedding suited them down to the ground – it was a fab setting for their London wedding.

Unique Bride Style

Katie’s look was really unique. She chose to wear a gorgeous two piece and a fabulous midi length silk coat which she had picked up in Topshop. And as for her bouquet – swoon worthy and perfectly seasonal. Ben also looked fab in his Kooples suit and special mention must go to his lack of blinking on the day! 😀 (Seriously never met anyone who blinks as much in photos as Ben!)

Love these guys

There were many memorable (mostly funny) moments across the day my favourite being when they exited from Islington Town Hall linked to each other…not just through matrimony but also because Ben’s suit button had become attached to Katie’s skirt. How we laughed!

“Amazing! The photography was a top priority for us because we knew that photographs would be one of the few lasting mementoes of the day and that we would enjoy leafing through them in years to come. In tune with the whole day, we wanted to find a photographer whose style was modern and informal but who was also fun to have around.

After finding Jordanna’s work online, and after meeting her for a drink (which turned into dinner), we knew straight away that she was the person for us. She was an absolute pleasure to work with, snapping away without being intrusive and getting along so easily with all our guests.

She also has an amazing eye for unconventional or striking shots: she’d noticed, for example, that our clothes matched a pair of garage doors out in the street, so she took some photos of us standing in front of them. We ended up using one of these on our thank you cards. We can’t recommend Jordanna highly enough!”

What made you go for The Easton Pub Wedding?

We wanted a fun and easy-going day in London as it’s the city where we met and haved lived for the past decade. We decided on Islington Town Hall because it’s a beautiful building and close to lots of choices for a bit of food and a party afterwards. We’d looked at a few different pubs and restuarants but ended up choosing The Easton because of how amazingly helpful the staff were. How happy the staff were to let us do our own thing when it came to decorations and entertainment. As well as how much we enjoyed the food at a tasting session they’d organised for us.”

Groom Style

Ben – “I decided to splash out on a new suit for the day and found a really nice one at the Kooples. It was dark green/grey in a slim, contemporary cut, which I paired with a plain white shirt from Cos. As the suit was smart but quite plain, I decided to add a bit of colour and individuality with a pink wool tie I found on Etsy and a pair of dark green leather shoes from Grenson.”

Brilliantly creative London Florist

“There are some really amazing florists about at the moment and instagram was a massive source of inspiration. We ended up finding out about One Flew Over at A Most Curious Wedding Fair. They were full of ideas from the very beginning. The brief was fairly simple and they did a better job than we could ever have imagined. People still tell us how much they loved the flowers to this day.”

The Ceremony and Wedding Readings

We decided to walk in together. We’re both really close to our families but we’ve been together for a long time so the idea of being “given away” seemed a little odd.  Our friend Isabella read an extract from The Amber Spyglass because Katie’s a big Philip Pullman fan. Best man Paul read from a poem by Louis MacNeice, ‘Flowers in the Interval’. Ben picked because it captures something of what it’s like to fall in love with a person who is both uniquely themselves and uniquely suited to you: a soul mate.

Wedding Wisdom

Pick 2 or 3 things as a priority and focus on getting those right. We decided we wanted to put the people coming to the wedding at the heart of it so our priorities were finding a venue where people could have a mingle, enjoy some nice food and have room to dance the night away.

Handcrafted rings is a special touch

We made each other’s wedding rings at The Quarter Workshop in Birmingham. This was really special and added a nice personal touch to exchanging rings. It was definitely one of the highlights of planning the wedding and it’s so lovely to have a ring that’s been handcrafted by your partner. We really recommend giving it a go!
